Career Path: Software Engineering
Before Coding Temple: Account Executive
Before Coding Temple: Software Engineer @ Notable
Working in Inside Sales (cold-calling)
I have always had an interest in software development, and COVID shutdowns gave me a unique opportunity to make a career switch!
Smaller class sizes and large breadth of languages/frameworks taught
Framework weeks – putting together knowledge from several other topics to create full-stack applications. I was able to overcome these tough weeks by utilizing all of the resources Coding Temple provided – watching class recordings, booking 1:1 sessions with associate instructors, and leaning on my cohort-mates for tips.
Problem solving (thinking like a developer)
1:1’s with the associate instructor were always very insightful if something wasn’t clicking in class
The job search process involved a lot of applications, networking, and technical assessments. Over the course of about 2 months, I had 5 final-round interviews and landed a role as a backend engineer! The career team was incredibly helpful, and took a lot of the guess-work out of this incredibly intimidating career switch. They helped me gain the confidence that eventually led to my dream role!
I am now a backend software engineer in the healthcare industry – hoping to move into a management position soon!
It exceeded all expectations! My biggest surprise was the sense of community/bonding between all of my cohort-mates and instructors – I still keep in touch with my cohort-mates today!
Trust the process. Learning something this complex over the course of only 10-weeks is an amazing feat that won’t come without some frustration. Coding is hard! If you put in the work and utilize the resources you have at your disposal, you will gain so much from this program.
