Freelance and temp work.
Tech boot camps have a reputation for getting non traditional talent into the workforce. I wanted to take getting a tech job seriously.
The program was the best deal I found. Specifically due to the WIOA funding.
The challenging part was applying the concepts in the capstone project. I overcame it by steadily working at it and asking for help.
I learned how to research answers and teach myself new technologies and concepts. That’s an important part of my job to this today.
The instructors were the biggest resource. Nothing beats a personable, hands on approach.
While I did most of my job searching on my own, when it came time to negotiate Marlene gave me insights that really brought me more value.
I’m doing better than I expected to and working in a position that’s perfect for me. My next goal is to become a senior software engineer.
I expected the program to be rigorous and it was. I think that the most surprising part of the experience was the relationships that I developed with my teachers and classmates. They really are all a great launching pad for my tech network.
